myQ Chamberlain Smart Garage Hub

We've had a LiftMaster garage door opener for several years and love that our installer upgraded us to the version that allowed us to control it through the MyQ app.  Recently, however, the Wi-Fi receiver started failing so I was mildly despondent.

When researching current options, I found that to replace the 828LM LiftMaster Internet Gateway (the Wi-Fi receiver) was $60.  That seemed too expensive for what I expected.

Luckily, I found that they also offer a generic Wi-Fi gateway now that works with many different garage door brands and still utilizes the MyQ app.  Hit the link at the top for the MyQ Chamberlain Smart Garage Hub.  For $22 it can turn about any opener into a smart garage.  

Set Up:

• The small box contains a hub with AC Adapter and a sensor.
• Just download the MyQ app and add a hub.  Plug in the new hub in your house to set it up.  The app walks you through it - just requires bluetooth to be turned on for your phone.
• Then you apply the sensor to the top right or top left of the inside of your garage door with two supplied velcro strips.
• Hang the smart hub in your garage (requires Wi-Fi from the house to reach there).  It just requires two screws into a 2x4 or they supply drywall anchors.  Attach the backing plate, then twist on the hub.  Voila!  It's set.

Advantages:

• Open your garage door for others when you aren't there using the app.  Much cheaper alternative than the smart door locks.
• Set up Amazon Key so that deliveries can be made safely inside your garage.
• Set up a schedule to make sure the door is closed each night.
• Set up notifications when the garage door opens or closes.  Keep track of the kids getting home late.
• Add a WyzeCam, Ring camera or similar to watch the Amazon deliveries or others you permit in the garage.  Watch them when you get the notifications.

This is one of the least expensive smart home tools and it provides a tremendous value.
